In 2020, we're repeating our #GiveBlackFriday initiative that was so worthwhile in 2019, read below about what it is and why we're supporting Beauty Banks once again.
Held the day after Thanksgiving in the USA, Black Friday has come to be a day of frantic product purchasing on a global basis. It's a relatively recent retail phenomenon, and is named after the 'fact' that it's when retailers go 'into the black' in their trading year, and start make a profit.
However, not everyone's fortunate enough to have the money or wherewithal to "Buy Buy Buy". The UK continues to experience disturbingly high levels of income equality and homelessness. For example, the widespread use of Food Banks by people experiencing poverty continues to grow and as we approach Christmas, truly a time of giving, we wanted to change our approach from 'selling' to 'giving'.
We are pleased to announce our King of Shaves 'Give Black Friday' initiative. Because more people are online and in the shops, we typically see a sales uplift, whether from supermarkets and health & beauty retailers, to Amazon and our online store, we wanted to give something back. Rather than profiting from this increase, we will be donating the equivalent value of purchases from our online sales channels on that day, Amazon UK, USA and kingofshaves.com (which are in the thousands of pounds) in products to Beauty Banks, a UK based charity who believe being clean is a basic human right.
In Beauty Banks' own words: "We are a people powered grass roots movement who believe that being clean is a basic human right, not a luxury and not a privilege. We exist to make 'hygiene poverty' history while supporting those living in poverty in the UK - those who can't afford to be clean - with personal care and hygiene essentials. This is about dignity, self-confidence and mental wellbeing. This is also about change. We support those in need while lobbying the UK government, as part of a Beauty APPG, to make change happen. Ours is beauty with purpose".

We are hoping that the introduction of our #GiveBlackFriday initiative is taken up by our fellow health and beauty companies every year, and results in the donations of tens, then hundreds of thousands of pounds of essential health & beauty products in the coming years.
